LONDON - February 22, 2021 - SailGP has announced that contemporary footwear brand Camper has been named the Official Footwear Supplier of the sport’s pinnacle league, exclusively designing and creating a selection of technical and casual footwear for both SailGP and the Spain SailGP Team.

A family-run business with over 140 years of footwear expertise, the Mallorca-based brand shares SailGP’s purpose, vision and values, challenging the status quo while focusing on quality, performance, and sustainability. Taking inspiration from sailing and the sea, which form a part of the brand’s storied history, Camper has developed exclusive SailGP styles – including those supplied to SailGP staff and the Spanish team – that are kinder to the planet and provide the performance, design, and durability needed to compete.

SailGP CEO Russell Coutts said: “Partnerships with like-minded companies that share the same vision is important to us at SailGP so we are excited to welcome Camper to our partner roster for Season 2. Their products will not only help our teams to perform at the highest level, both on and off the water, but also help raise funds to benefit environmental causes which makes us very excited about this partnership.”

Camper CEO Miguel Fluxà said: “We are very proud of our partnership with SailGP as it once again reinforces our relationship with the sailing world. We are thrilled to be a part of this new and exciting global league and are honored to also be the Official Footwear Supplier of the Spanish team, which shares Camper’s teamwork, passion, pride, innovation, and sustainability values.”

Spain SailGP Team CEO Maria del Mar de Ros said: “As a Spanish company with a long and rich heritage in the sport, we are very excited to have Camper onboard with both the league and the team. Ensuring the athletes have confidence in the footwear they wear onboard the F50 is paramount as they rapidly need to move from one side of the boat to the other on a constantly moving platform. We are confident that thanks to our partnership with Camper, the team will not only look good, but also be able to perform at the highest level.”

The SailGP x Camper collection will be available at selected Camper stores, Camper.com and through SailGP’s retail channels in April 2021. One percent from the sales of the collection will be donated by Camper to environmental causes.

On-water
Camper has created a technologically advanced sneaker based on the brand’s CRCLR, a style that combines all-round performance benefits with a personalized aesthetic and the unique waterproof breathability of Gore-Tex Surround technology. The low-top sneaker will be available in two distinct colorways for SailGP Season 2; red with black-and-white details and a white outsole for the Spain SailGP Team, and neutral black and white with red highlights for SailGP staff.

Working in close collaboration with the Spain SailGP Team, Camper has also designed a new Gore-Tex boot. This unique, high performance boot has been specifically created for the athletes, building on the existing CRCLR design and adapting it to meet the team’s unique performance requirements onboard the high-speed F50. Aside from offering excellent grip and protection, this lightweight boot has been designed with an interior Gore-Tex sock, ensuring the athlete’s feet stay dry during competition and allowing water to easily escape through the openings of its specialized outsole. A reinforced heel and adjustable webbing straps provide extra adaptability and performance. The bold black-and-red uppers also feature the official branding of the Spain SailGP Team.

On shore
For the more casual side of the SailGP collaboration, Camper has reimagined its iconic Pelotas XL. Made with suede and recycled PET uppers, the model will be available in two unique styles: red with black details for the Spain SailGP Team, and a neutral black-and-white option with red highlights for SailGP staff.

A new option of Match – Camper’s popular unisex sandal – has also been created for SailGP Season 2 featuring all-black uppers and a contrasting red outsole.

SailGP is the sport’s pinnacle league and the first climate positive sports and entertainment property. SailGP Season 2 will feature eight national teams made up of the sport’s top athletes squaring off in eight events across three continents. The season gets underway in Bermuda on April 24-25, 2021.
